Reflections on The Cove Show: A Weekend of Art, Connection, and Growth

The Cove Show was an incredible milestone in my artistic journey, filled with preparation, creativity, and connection. Over two packed days, I had the chance to showcase my creations, connect with other artists, and gain invaluable experience that has enriched both my craft and confidence. Here’s a look at the journey from preparation to the impactful moments of the show itself.

Preparing for The Cove Show

In the weeks leading up to the show, I decided to print a series of greeting cards and note cards featuring my artwork. Using cardstock I had on hand and some additional cardstock I purchased, I printed these at home. I created five different greeting card designs from my paintings and five more from my ZenDala Doodles. Each design was a reflection of my style, blending vibrant colors and intricate patterns.

In addition to the greeting cards, I printed note cards featuring five different paintings and five unique ZenDala designs. But the star of the show was a brand-new creation—ZenDala Doodle coloring books. This idea came to me at the last minute, inspired in a way that felt almost magical, and I’m grateful I had them ready in time for the show.

Setting Up for the Event

We weren’t permitted to set up on Friday night, which meant arriving bright and early at eight a.m. Saturday morning. I spent the morning arranging tables, grids, and displays. My service work from ten a.m. to noon was spent cashiering—a busy, exhilarating, and slightly chaotic period. Afterward, I continued supporting the club by entering cash sale invoices into a spreadsheet, a task I handled throughout both Saturday and Sunday. The show ran from ten a.m. to five p.m. each day, and on Sunday evening, I packed everything up and headed home with my husband Bill.

Feedback and Success

Throughout both days, familiar faces stopped by, and I received valuable feedback on my new products. While I didn’t sell any original paintings, the positive responses were rewarding, and I did sell several of my greeting and note cards, as well as a number of coloring books. The success of the show was clear—not only did I more than quadruple my booth fee, but I also gained insight and experience that will be invaluable for future events.

My work was praised by fellow artists, who admired the creativity and ingenuity of my products. It was truly humbling to be included among such talented individuals, each an established and imaginative artist in their own right. Being recognized as a peer among these artists felt both grounding and empowering.

Growing as an Artist

The Cove Show was more than just an opportunity to sell my work; it represented a shift in how I view myself as an artist. This experience gave me a newfound confidence and a sense of maturity in presenting my art to the world. I realized that what I offer is something people genuinely appreciate. On a deep, even cellular level, I feel gratitude for the inspiration and ability to bring these creations to life and share them with others.

Bringing Joy Through Art

One of the most heartwarming moments came shortly after the show, when I received a message from someone who had been given one of my coloring greeting cards. She sent a picture of the card she had colored using the pencils included with it, thrilled at how she could start right away. Knowing that my creations bring joy to others is a deeply fulfilling feeling, and it’s precisely why I pour so much heart into my art. Tee hee hee, I’m a poet too!

Looking Ahead

The Cove Show has not only strengthened my belief in my art but has also sparked excitement for where this journey might lead next. I’m looking forward to growing, expanding, and sharing my work with an even wider audience. This experience has been a profound step forward, and I’m eager to see what the future holds for me as an artist.
